ZYRA FRONT PAGE //// SITE INDEX

What is DEEP-LINKING ?

DEEP-LINKING is referencing to pages WITHIN a site, not just the front page. For example, if you see www.zyra.org.uk ) that's not a deep link, but if you see www.zyra.org.uk/allders.htm or www.zyra.org.uk/linux.htm , that is a deep link. Deep-Linking is linking to any page on another site other than the front page.

Some of the best-known deep linkings are where they are made public such as when you hear the Radio1 DJ say "and the website is www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 "

Having said that, for deep linking to work, a site needs to have a DEEP LINKING POLICY. That is, the site-owners are declaring that deep-links are reliable and that they won't suddenly and without warning rearrange the site so the pages are changed. Deep links announced by the BBC are reliable, but even places as reputable as the Tate Gallery have been known to suddenly change their page-layout, so you can't rely on the deep links!

This site (www.zyra.org.uk) has a deep linking policy! Take a look at The Deep-Linking Policy of www.zyra.org.uk

Also, deep-linking is an affiliate phenomenon. For example Fortnum and Mason , Comet , Firebox , and most of the other merchants at Affiliates Marketing Companies have a deep linking policy which allows affiliates to link to PRODUCTS and CATEGORIES within the merchant site. One example of this is where there is HALF A DOG for sale. (It's a deep-link of the type known as a "product-link")
