That clever JavaScript Clock which follows the mouse pointer ...

It's a clock.

It follows the mouse-pointer.

It's got a curious delay lag effect.

It's a clever JavaScript program.

This clever JavaScript Clock is a classic, much repeated and spread on the Internet. Many websites quote the legendary "JavaScript Clock" and make comments on how clever the author is, although most of the sites do not know who the author is. They say things like "Very clever, and we'd credit the author if we knew who they were". I've tried to find out, by some searching, and I've found a few possibilities. The author could be Kurt Grigg, or possibly Amy Cook, or maybe David Koopman, but there was no certainty. However, now, light is cast upon the matter of the authorship of the Java Clock! See message from Kurt Grigg at the end of this page! And, even though some sites claim to have the copyright, they don't have it, as they've copied it from other sites, and it does now seem to be truly open source!

So, anyway, here it is, the famous JavaScript Clock which follows the mouse around with a delay built in. Fun, clever, maybe not particularly practical, but certainly interesting. And, a sign of the times in a kind of LCD watch kind of a way! Another way of having a timepiece that follows you around is to buy a WATCH!

Here's the code:

Hello Zyra,

A few people have emailed me about the clock on your page. It's no big deal but the clock, originally named Silly Clock 3, is absolutely mine. I wrote it in 2003 and like all my scripts, it's totally free to use by anyone. If anyone else IS claiming copyright I'd like to know they are. Amy Cook submitted it to http://javascript.internet.com as her work but they ignored my protests so I no longer submit any work to that site.

Also, the version you have is the old original. The updated version is freely available at http://www.btinternet.com/~kurt.grigg/javascript/sillyclock/sillyclock.html

This version is slightly different with the date not spinning but ticking in unison with seconds hand. Also, it now works in all browsers with any other script/s on the same page and has an on/off button for those that don't like this sort of thing.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Kurt.
